May 3rd Lula Takes a Break
Lula stretches her wings after a long day of sitting.
Here's a close up of Lula and the mallard. My mom said that she liked the name Lucky for the daddy. I kind of like that one too. "Lula and Lucky Duck" sounds great together. I'm going to call the daddy Lucky from now on.
It has been raining all day today and Lula has been busy keeping her nest safe . The sun finally came out and Lucky is here. I looked out the window and found them walking around the lawn looking for food. I went out and fed them some bread. Lula is so hungry. She beats Lucky to the food almost every time. He doesn't seem to mind. He takes a piece if it is easy to get. Lula will run to snap up the food. I took these pictures after I fed them. A few days ago I put out a glass pie plate with some water in it. There is no pond nearby or anyway for her to get water while she sits on the nest. I had never seen her drink out of it until today.

I don't think it's fair that guy ducks are better looking than girl ducks.
I think you should put a pond in your yard for your new duck friends!
We actually had a little pond and waterfall in the back yard that we just finished taking out. It was too deep and I didn't want one of my babies falling in. So, the pie plate will have to do for now.
annie- the guy ducks are much more interesting looking than the females. It seems to be that way with many birds.
I love the top picture with the mommas wings out. This is so cool to watch. Hunter can't go to bed without checking on the ducks every night. I don't think it is fair that the daddy duck gets to be prettier than the momma either...
Funny, we had duck tacos for our Cinco de Mayo party. Yummy!
