May 28th Make Way For Ducklings!

Happy Birthday to our 7 little fluffy ducklings, Jack, Kack, Lack, Mack, Nack, Pack and Quack! Lula is the proud momma of 7 ducklings. She is very protective and they are staying very close to her and the nest! Click on the pictures to maximize them and get a better look!

May 26th Newborn Photo Session

I did a photo session today. This little guy is about 2 months old. He's adorable! Here are a few pictures that I liked.

May 25th No Babies Yet

I haven't posted any pictures of Lula and Lucky for a while. Lula spends most of her time sitting on the nest. When I look in at her she sort of looks like she is sulking. I'll bet she feels like we do when we just want to be done being pregnant. Today is the day that, according to the research I did on the internet, the ducklings were due. But, not today. Maybe tomorrow.

May 19th Where Is Lula?

It was so hot today and I thought Lula might want to eat so I went out to take her some bread tonight and she is gone! She hasn't gone farther than ours or the neighbor's yard for weeks. I can't see her anywhere. While she was gone I took the opportunity to snap a picture of her nest. She has her eggs completely covered with feathers and dried grasses. I'm sure she'll be back soon. Maybe she went to find Lucky to tell him that the chicks are comming! :)

May 17th Lucky Returns

This morning as we were leaving for school we found Lula and Lucky out on the lawn. Lucky has been gone for quite a while now. It looks like he has come back to check on her and the eggs. It is neat to observe Lula's behavior when Lucky is around. She seems so much more social and she seems happy to see him. Maybe she feels safer when he is near. They came right up to us looking for some food. We went back in the house and got some bread to feed them and the camera of course. There is just a little over a week left before the eggs should hatch! (Notice all of the cotton on the ground from the cottonwood trees. It's crazy here. For the past three days it's like we're living in a snow globe. )

May 8th Update on Lula and Her Nest

Lula is really hunkering down in her nest. I haven't seen her out at all. Lucky hasn't been around either. I read on the internet that after the momma starts sitting on the eggs the male duck leaves to go hang with other males. Anyway, I thought Lula might be hungry so I took some bread out to her. I threw it right up close to the nest to see if she would come out. I could see her looking at me and holding really still. She didn't come out to eat so I went in and watched from the house. As soon as I went in I saw her peek her little head out to get the bread. I came out and gave her some more and went back in the house to watch and sure enough she ate it again.

May 3rd Lula Takes a Break

Here's a close up of Lula and the mallard. My mom said that she liked the name Lucky for the daddy. I kind of like that one too. "Lula and Lucky Duck" sounds great together. I'm going to call the daddy Lucky from now on.




It has been raining all day today and Lula has been busy keeping her nest safe . The sun finally came out and Lucky is here. I looked out the window and found them walking around the lawn looking for food. I went out and fed them some bread. Lula is so hungry. She beats Lucky to the food almost every time. He doesn't seem to mind. He takes a piece if it is easy to get. Lula will run to snap up the food. I took these pictures after I fed them. A few days ago I put out a glass pie plate with some water in it. There is no pond nearby or anyway for her to get water while she sits on the nest. I had never seen her drink out of it until today.

May 1st Lula and Buddy Take A Bath

I looked out the window and found the ducks taking a bath in the neighbor's sprinklers! How adorable! They looked like they were enjoying themselves walking around in the mist and shaking their feathers. The neighbor girls named the momma Lula and the daddy Buddy. I think Lula is a very cute name. We'll call her Lula too.
